AGT Judges Left Horrified After TikTok Star Frankie LaPenna’s Wild Balloon Stunt Backfires.

The second round of auditions on America’s Got Talent delivered a mix of viral personalities, unusual comedy, and genuinely surprising performances, but few contestants sparked as much conversation online as Frankie La Penna. Already known to millions on TikTok for his over-the-top prank videos and exaggerated comedy sketches,  La Penna brought the same chaotic energy to the NBC stage — though the judges were far less impressed than his online audience.

Before the performance even began, La Penna immediately caught attention with his intentionally absurd appearance. Wearing extremely tight gray shorts designed to exaggerate his figure, he walked onto the stage to loud cheers from audience members who clearly recognized him from social media. Judges Mel B and Sofía Vergara quickly turned the conversation toward his unusual outfit, joking about whether the look was real or padded. The exchange set the tone for what became one of the strangest acts of the night.

La Penna explained very little about what he planned to do, only teasing that the judges had “never seen anything like it before.” In reality, the act centered around him attempting to pop balloons using the oversized padding attached to his shorts. The performance leaned heavily into physical comedy and awkwardness, similar to the style that helped him build a massive following online. On TikTok,  La Penna’s humor often depends on quick edits, surprise reactions, and public pranks, but on the live AGT stage, the act had far less room to hide behind editing or camera tricks.

The judges reacted almost immediately. Mel B hit her red buzzer within seconds, clearly signaling her dislike for the act. Vergara soon followed and even reached over to press Simon Cowell’s buzzer herself. Eventually, all four judges voted no, ending La Penna’s AGT journey before it could move to the next round.

Even though the performance failed with the panel, it still reflected an interesting shift in how talent shows increasingly feature internet personalities alongside traditional singers, dancers, and magicians. La Penna’s appearance was part of a larger TikTok-heavy episode that also included impressionist singer Rynia Kando and dancer Abiud Sando. Unlike La Penna, both advanced further in the competition after stronger responses from the judges.

What made La Penna’s audition memorable was not necessarily the stunt itself, but the contrast between internet fame and live television performance. Online, his exaggerated style works because audiences expect quick, ridiculous humor in short clips. On a major talent competition stage, however, the same material can feel repetitive without a stronger payoff or deeper act structure.

Still, La Penna appeared to take the rejection lightly. After filming ended, he spent time with fans outside and even recorded social media content with fellow contestants. That reaction matched the carefree personality that helped him build his audience in the first place.

While his AGT run ended quickly, Frankie LaPenna still managed to create one of the most talked-about audition moments of the episode — even if it came with four red buzzers.
